Getting started

Do I need a referral?

Yes. A referral from your GP or another medical practitioner is needed to see a psychiatrist and to claim Medicare rebates. Ask for a referral to Dr Arlin Price at Avyro Clinics.

How long is the wait?

Availability is limited, so there may be a wait. Once referrals open, we aim to acknowledge receipt within 2 business days and advise on next steps within 5 business days of receiving a complete referral. This is separate from the wait for an appointment, which we will explain when we contact you.

What ages do you see?

Children and young people aged 6 to 25, and adults whose needs can be safely met in outpatient care.

Do I need to live in NSW?

You need to be physically located in NSW at the time of each appointment; your usual home address may be elsewhere. Appointments are currently by telehealth. We confirm your location at the start of each consultation. We review whether telehealth is appropriate for your needs.

Can I refer myself?

You need a referral from a doctor. Your GP is the best place to start, and they can send the referral to us online.

Appointments & telehealth

Is telehealth as good as seeing someone in person?

For most psychiatric assessments and reviews, video appointments work very well, and many families find them easier and less stressful. If we think in-person care would serve you better, we’ll tell you.

What do I need for a video appointment?

A private, quiet space, a reliable internet connection and a phone, tablet or computer with a camera and microphone. We send the secure link before your appointment.

Who should attend an appointment for my child?

A parent or carer joins with the child. Some of the time may be spent with the child alone and some with parents alone. If parents are separated, let us know early so we can plan consent and attendance.

What happens after the first appointment?

Dr Price explains the findings and options, then sends a detailed letter to your GP. Review appointments are arranged where helpful, and ongoing care is shared with your GP.

Treatment

Do you assess and treat ADHD?

Yes, for children, young people and adults. Assessment includes a detailed history and questionnaires, often from parents and school as well. Any medication is discussed carefully and prescribed in line with NSW requirements.

Will I be prescribed medication?

Not necessarily. Medication is one option among several, and decisions are made together with you. Many plans focus on therapy, school or work supports and practical strategies.

Do you provide therapy?

Our focus is psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning and medication management. We often recommend psychology alongside this and work with your psychologist where you agree.

Fees, privacy & safety

How much will it cost?

Our fees are published on the fees page. Initial assessments are $750 for adults and $950 for children and adolescents. Medicare rebates apply to eligible consultations with a valid referral.

Is my information kept private?

Yes. Your information is held securely and shared only with your consent or where the law requires it. Read our privacy policy for details.

Is Avyro a crisis service?

No. If someone is in immediate danger, call 000 or go to the nearest emergency department. In NSW, the Mental Health Line is 1800 011 511. Lifeline is 13 11 14 and Kids Helpline is 1800 55 1800.
